Biography

Jason Dowling is a Principal Research Scientist and a Research Team Leader with the CSIRO Health and Biosecurity business unit, where he leads the medical image analysis research team.

Based at the Australian e-Health Research Centre, located on the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital campus in Herston, Queensland, Jason and his team work closely with clinicians and industry partners to automatically analyse and report information from 3D medical images (incuding MRI, CT, PET) for disease diagnosis and monitoring, treatment planning, and treatment delivery. He is currently leading projects on MRI based radiation therapy treatment planning, radiation oncology clinical trial analysis and quality assurance, and non-invasive MRI-based lung structure and function assessment.

Jason works with the CSIRO Space Future Science Platform and has a research interest in space medicine and life sciences and space analogue environments. He is a graduate of the International Space University Space Sciences Program (SSP19), and is a member of the International Space Exploration Coordination Group (ISECG) Analog Action Team; the Australian Space Agency Space Medicine and Life Sciences Technical Advisory Group; and the Australian Academy of Science Space Health and Life Sciences Decadal Plan Working Group.

Jason collaborates with many Australian and international universities. He holds an Adjunct Professor position at the University of Canberra; Adjunct Associate Professor positions with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales and the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at the University of Queensland; an Honorary Principal Fellow position with the Centre for Medical Radiation Physics at Wollongong University; and honourary positions at the Universities of Sydney (Institute of Medical Physics) and Newcastle (Mathematical and Physical Sciences).
