Biography

Dr Pennie Taylor is a Senior Research Scientist and Dietitian for the Australian e-Health Research Centre (AEHRC - http://aehrc.com/) Digital Therapeutics and Care (DTac) projects for Health & Biosecurity.

Pennies diverse experience at CSIRO includes the design, delivery and evaluation of large and complex clinical and community trails that explore the influence of dietary patterns and dietary composition on health outcomes. (Weight management (including nutrition and metabolic weight loss surgery), metabolic health, chronic disease including type 2 diabetes and heart disease) using health technologies (CGM) including mobile phone applications.

Pennies capacity to translate research outcomes into nutrition and health programs is strengthened through her practice knowledge as she has over a two decades of clinical practice experience remaining in the allied health practitioner field to compliment her science.

Her skills and experience have led to commercialisation and scientific publications including community weight loss programs delivered online or through community pharmacy (Impromy.com) and her co-authorship of the CSIRO Low Carb Diet Book (2017) and the CSRIO Low Carb Everyday Book (2018) ;and The CSIRO Healthy Gut Diet (2017) (http://www.panmacmillan.com.au/9781925481488/).

Pennie remains an active member of the primary health community and is an active committee member for the Dietitians Australia (DA); Australian and New Zealand Metabolic and Obesity Surgery Society (ANZMOSS) ; American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and is currently a Member of the Primary Health Network (PHN) Clinical Council in South Australia.

Her diverse background has also enabled Pennie to work across a broad range of projects with a variety of stakeholders (Clinical, Research and Industry) and deliver a range of innovative virtual care solutions to support health care delivery and health management.

Pennie holds a PhD through the University of Adelaide, School of Medicine, and explored strategies to optimise glucose variability and self-management behaviour, using Real-Time Continuous Glucose Monitoring for individuals with Type 2 Diabetes.

Other Interests

Pennie has country roots and loves being outdoors and trips back home to the Flinders Rangers SA and rural regions. She has a special interest in understanding the health care needs of rural and remote communities with a desire to support improving the access and quality of care provided to these environments.
