Biography
Dr Chunji Liu is a Chief Research Scientist at CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) which is the national science agency of Australia. He received his PhD degree in wheat genome mapping from the University of Cambridge, UK, which was followed by a postdoc on millet genome mapping at the John Innes Centre, UK. He joined CSIRO in 1993 and is currently the leader of the Host Resistance Team at CSIRO Agriculture & Food unit located in Brisbane. Reducing impacts of soil/stubble-borne necrotrophic fungal pathogens in crop production by improving breeding technology is one of the main foci of his team. Currently their research focuses on developing genetic solution to Fusarium diseases in wheat and barley. To accelerate research output and interrogate new science questions, they are also interested in methodologies for enhancing the capacity to handle large and complex plant genome datasets.
