Biography

Dr Matt Adcock is the Research Team Leader for Interactive Imaging in Data61's Imaging and Computer Vision Group, and the Solution Architect for the Cyber-Physical Systems Research Program. He uses Spatial AI, Computer Vision, Interactive Computer Graphics, and Robotics to build systems that connect the digital and physical worlds to drive industrial productivity and safety.

Dr Adcock has delivered projects into industries including Digital Agriculture, Energy, Health, Heritage/Conservation, Mining and Manufacturing, and assisted multiple start-ups to achieve funding. He has published over 100 peer reviewed research papers and holds degrees from the Australian National University (ANU), the University of South Australia (UniSA) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His current research includes specific focus on next generation AI (training new robot and vision systems) as well as advanced interfaces for human-robot teaming.

He is the recipient of multiple awards and was named a Gold Disruptor by the Australian Computer Society for his work on Augmented Reality (AR) technologies for conducting physical tasks over the Internet.

Other Interests

In addition to leading impactful industrial projects, Dr Adcock has over two decades of leadership in global research fora. He is a co-founder of the ACM SIGGRAPH Asia conference on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques (one of the top two global conferences in this area), as well as its predecessor, ACM GRAPHITE.

For over 10 years he has sat on the Steering Committees for SIGGRAPH Asia, and the ACM Conference on the Virtual Reality Continuum and its Applications in Industry. He is an Invited Expert at the OECD Global Forum on Technology.

He is a regular committee chair or member of peer review committees at IEEE VR & 3DUI, ACM Web 3D, IEEE ISMAR, ACM SIGGAPH Asia, ACM SIGGRAPH, ACM VRST, ACM SUI, ACM VRCAI and IEEE AIxVR.
