Biography

Mahathir is a Senior Engineer at CSIRO’s Energy Systems Program, renowned for leading multi-disciplinary projects and fostering regional partnerships across Southeast Asia. He has spearheaded initiatives in energy storage, AI-driven tools for energy systems, and synthetic data research. Mahathir’s collaborations have secured significant external funding, advanced international cooperation, and positioned CSIRO as a trusted technical partner. He is also recognized for his leadership, mentoring, and contributions to knowledge sharing, earning awards and invitations to present at major conferences and serve on technical standards committees.

Before joining CSIRO, Mahathir worked on a variety of projects within academia and industry that have transformed scientific outputs into real-world products. Whilst primarily an engineer, he has maintained a publication track record, including contributions to 5 patents, and also volunteered expert reviews. His focus now is on applying the latest in AI and data science techniques to assist with the urgent global energy transition.
