Biography

Amanda's background is in science communication and education. After initially studying Chemistry and Business, she completed a Graduate Diploma in Science Communication. While working with Questacon - The National Science and Technology Centre, in Canberra she developed skills in science communication, presented science shows across Australia and had the opportunity to work with various Aboriginal communities.

After being involved in science outreach for a number of years Amanda returned to study, completing a Graduate Diploma in Primary Teaching, before teaching in the remote community of Borroloola. She also completed a Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Education to enhance her understanding of this area.

Amanda has also worked in university outreach and engagement with RMIT University and The University of Queensland, recreation programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth in Far North Queensland, and as coordinator of Scitech's Aboriginal Education Program taking hands on science to remote communities across Western Australia.

Amanda is passionate about improving education outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, she is continually learning and feels very privileged to have so many opportunities to work with and learn from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
