Biography
I am a geodesist by training, but also have a diverse background in other areas, including remote sensing, GNSS, GIS, photogrammetry, cartography, and software/website development. Historically I have applied my skills in a wide variety of science disciplines including satellite calibration/validation, polar glaciology and large carnivore research (brown bears). Since starting with CSIRO in 2017, my efforts have been focused on marine environmental modelling within the Coastal Environmental Modelling (CEM) Team.
My roles at CSIRO include:
- Development of the Relocatable Ocean and Atmosphere Model (ROAM) system under the Bluelink partnership (including leadership of specific development projects);
- Management of near-real time environmental modelling for eReefs, Gladstone Harbour and Lizard Island;
- Field operations for maintaining ocean observing networks;
- Compute and storage systems administration;
I have a particular interest in data visualisation and UX development for environmental modelling and decision making, often working with end-users to take raw model outputs and convert them into map and animation dashboards for operational planning.
