Biography

Katie is a Research Scientist at CSIRO Agriculture and Food, Narrabri. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with First Class Honours in 2010. During her undergraduate degree, Katie undertook two summer research projects at the Australian Cotton Research Institute in Narrabri, NSW. The first of these was a project investigating the behaviour of mirids, a pest in cotton, in response to their predators, working under the supervision of Dr Mary Whitehouse (CSIRO). Katie also undertook a summer project investigating root growth and turnover of Bt and non-Bt cotton, working under the supervision of Dr Nilantha Hulugalle (NSW DPI).

In 2011, Katie undertook her PhD studies, in collaboration with researchers at CSIRO, the University of Sydney, Western Sydney University and the United States Department of Agriculture, to understand the integrated effects of projected climate change on the early growth and physiology of cotton. As part of her postdoctoral role, Katie led research to understand the season-long effects of climate change on cotton production and identify possible management strategies for growing cotton in a changing climate.

Katie currently leads a Modern Systems Agronomy project, investigating the use of novel plant growth hormones in cotton systems.
