Biography
Dr Rao Balusu is a mining engineer with more than 39 years’ experience in different aspects of mining engineering including production management, consultancy and mining research positions. After graduating from Osmania University (India) in 1983, he has initially worked for 9 years in coal mines in different levels of management, starting from mining engineer to Colliery Manager. He has obtained his Ph.D. in Mining Engineering from University of Wollongong (Australia) in 1993. In 1996 he joined the Exploration and Mining division of CSIRO (Australia) as a Mining Engineer/Research Scientist. During the last twenty one years, he has worked on several research projects including Mine gas control, Longwall geomechanics, Rapid roadway development and Inertisation projects. He has led several mine ventilation and gas control research projects including mine gas control, sponcom management, mine fires control, proactive inertisation, goaf gas flow mechanics, CFD modelling, longwall dust control and coal mining greenhouse gas mitigation strategies.
