Biography

Dr Sam Behrens is an experienced Senior Research Engineer and Project Manager, and is based at CSIRO’s Newcastle Energy Centre. Dr Behrens research is particularly focused on adding intelligence to the interaction of energy systems within the electricity residential distribution network. He has a wide experience base in software and hardware development, mechatronics, control systems engineering and project management.

Dr Behrens has a history of delivering innovation from research transaction to commercialization. For example, Dr Behrens was the project and technical lead for CSIRO and AMP Capital’s Evergen business venture. Dr Behrens has previously worked with CEC, AEMC, NREL, DSTO, University of Michigan and Duke University. He is also the co-author of two book chapters, several patent applications and more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, which have collected 1799 citations and an h-index of 23 (Google Scholar).
