Biography
Dr. Sam Behrens is a respected Senior Research Engineer with over twenty years' experience in engineering and scientific research. Joining CSIRO in 2004, he has advanced Australia's energy transition goals.
He has been instrumental in generating innovative ideas, securing over $ 7.3 million in research funding, and managing projects aligned with CSIRO's vision, including leading the DSES group and overseeing $ 4.4 million in projects. Dr. Behrens has embraced new strategies in electric vehicle tech, energy-efficient buildings, and grid integration of renewables. His recent work with Essential Energy-CSIRO demonstrated Australia's first commercial vehicle-to-grid (V2G) deployment using CCS2, showcasing his ability to translate emerging trends into impactful research.
His expertise spans IoE, V2X, and hydrogen vehicles. His involvement in monitoring home energy systems and staying current with literature shows his commitment to continuous learning.
Beyond project management, he demonstrates strong leadership in resource management, communication, and problem-solving, leading multidisciplinary teams and building industry partnerships.
