Biography

Alicia is an Environmental Chemist who has worked in diverse fields of research and analytical laboratories in the areas of microbial, biochemical and chemical analysis for around 25 years.

In her current capacity she works as an experienced Senior seagoing Hydrochemist within the Engineering and Technology Program (E&T in the NCMI Business Unit). Alicia commenced this role in 2006 and subsequently assumed an integral role within the team to create protocols, documentation, and data processing tools to achieve high level accuracy & precision results for low level seawater nutrient analysis. She has participated in multiple inter-comparison trials demonstrating her achievements and efforts for both nutrients and salinity analysis at global standards. Alicia held primary responsibility for Hydrochemistry in logistics, analysis, interpretation, and final data for multiple successful Aurora Australis voyages.

Other Interests

Alicia enjoys the challenges of life and working at sea, in particular the opportunity to pursue her hobby of photography with the incredible landscapes and wildlife during her time at sea. Her story of life at sea is documented in a chapter of the book “Southern Surveyor” by author Michael Veitch.
