Biography

I am currently a Senior Principal Research Engineer with the CSIRO Mining Technology Group. During the last several years, I have worked extensively on the commercialisation of the CSIRO Award winning Landmark Longwall Automation technology (LASC).

As Group Leader, my role provides strategic direction to the five teams that specialise in navigation, sensing, process control and material science to improve mining recovery and efficiency and to enhance mineral processing and optimise material logistics. Team skills and expertise include mechatronics, software, communications, process control, mechanical and materials engineering, together with mineralogy and material science. I provide commercialisation support for a range of developed and emerging technologies including longwall automation, mineral processing, and component grain analysis.

I lead the team providing development and production support of LASC longwall automation, a solution which is now operating on a commercial basis in 16 Australian underground mines, representing 60% of all Australian longwalls. My role has been to provide technical direction and resource leadership to ensure ongoing development of the LASC automation technology.
