Biography
Micah has worked with CSIRO since finishing an environmental science degree at ANU in 1995. In that time, he has worked on a wide range of ecological research projects across Australia and overseas and developed a diverse knowledge and skills base. He has worked with several teams studying biodiversity, landscape function and ecology both in the field, via literature reviews and conceptual models.
Micah is an integral part of many landscape-scale experimental field projects in a range of environments. His work includes live-capture, radio- and satellite telemetry and observational studies of woodland birds, wetland birds, raptors, mammals and aquatic animals in many parts of Australia; measuring the response of ecological variables to the application of management actions (eg environmental watering, grazing exclusion); conducting field measurements for biomass and carbon (FullCAM) assessments; water quality and algal bloom equipment installation and monitoring and large-scale literature reviews including extracting, interpreting, and collating data.
Micah also leads several sub-projects including a long-term observational bird survey study at CSIRO Ginninderra Experiment Station investigating the effectiveness of habitat restoration activities; a long-term post-bushfire bird-banding experiment in the Brindabella Ranges, ACT and deploying trail cameras to study the influence of water on vegetation and wildlife in the River Murray floodplains.
Micah holds the following licences, permits or nationally accredited training: 4WD Operation, Advanced Driving, Animal Ethics, General Boat Licence, Motorbike Licence, Trailer towing, Chainsaw ticket, ATV (quad-bike) Operation, UTV (Side-by-Side) Operation, A-Class Bird Banding Permit, Remote Area First Aid and Tree access systems. Micah is also the Custodian for a range of vehicles and fieldwork equipment.
