Biography
I have been working in the Water Resource Management Program at CSIRO Land and Water since 2004. My research interests are in groundwater hydrology, especially recharge and discharge, integrating groundwater models with remote sensing and geophysics data, interactions between rivers and groundwater including flood recharge, hydrogeological impacts of CSG wells and groundwater dependent ecosystems. This research has varied from point scale to continental scale, and I consider the upscaling of small-scale physical processes to large regional models is an essential contribution to science development and water management.
My background in engineering hydrology and numerical analysis, coupled with the hydrogeological expertise I gained during my PhD has enabled me to:
• develop methods for upscaling and emulating recharge and evapotranspiration processes in regional models
• integrate hydrological models with ecological and socioeconomic research
• better characterise hydrological processes in data scarce regions such as Northern Australia.
I am currently working on quantifying recharge and groundwater evaporation and characterising groundwater systems using numerical and analytical models in the Northern Australia Water Resources Assessment Project (https://www.csiro.au/en/Research/Major-initiatives/Northern-Australia/Current-work/NAWRA). Previous projects include developing the flood inundation component of the Australian Water Resources Assessment (AWRA) system for the Bureau of Meteorology (http://www.csiro.au/en/Research/LWF/Areas/Water-resources/Assessing-water-resources/WIRADA/Research/Water-accounting) and assessing the hydrogeological impacts of leaky coal seam gas (CSG) bores on groundwater resources for the Office of Water Science (https://www.environment.gov.au/water/coal-and-coal-seam-gas/office-of-water-science).
