Biography

David Etheridge is a principal research scientist with the Climate Science Centre, CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere. His research involves the long term changes in greenhouse gases and ozone-depleting compounds. It has been used in all five IPCC Assessment Reports on The Science of Climate Change, all six World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) Scientific Assessments of Ozone Depletion and all three CSIRO/BoM State of the Climate reports, and he is a contributing author of these reports. He has led 8 field programs on the polar ice sheets, researching atmospheric composition change, climate change, and ice sheet dynamics. He is also investigating the possible impact on the atmosphere of new energy technologies, such as coal seam gas and geological storage of CO2.

Current roles:

Team Leader, Paleo Atmosphere and Fugitive Gases, CSIRO.
Project Leader, Paleo Carbon Cycle Dynamics, Australian Climate Change Science Program.
Chief-investigator, Greenhouse gases in the southern atmosphere, Project 4167, Australian Antarctic Science Program.
Co-investigator, High resolution studies of cosmogenic beryllium isotopes (10Be and 7Be) at Law Dome, Project 4200, Australian Antarctic Science Program.
Co-investigator, Aurora Basin North ice coring, Project 4075, Australian Antarctic Science Program.
Leader of atmospheric monitoring, Gas Industry Social and Environmental Research Alliance (GISERA), Methane in the Surat Basin, Queensland.
Co-investigator, Improving Methods for Quantifying Fugitive Emissions from Open-Cut Coal Mining, ACARP Project C24017.
