Biography

David Etheridge is a senior principal research scientist with CSIRO Environment. His research involves the long term changes in greenhouse gases and ozone-depleting compounds. It has been used in all IPCC Assessment Reports on The Science of Climate Change, the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) Scientific Assessments of Ozone Depletion and all CSIRO/BoM State of the Climate reports, and he is a contributing author of these reports. He has led 8 field programs on the polar ice sheets, researching atmospheric composition change, climate change, and ice sheet dynamics. He is also investigating the possible impact on the atmosphere of new energy technologies, such as coal seam gas and geological storage of CO2.

Current and recent roles:

Research Project co-leader, Antarctica’s influence on climate and sea level- Ice Cores, Australian Antarctic Program Partnership.
Chief Investigator, Reconstructing Carbon-14 of Carbon Monoxide to Constrain Long-Term Atmospheric Hydroxyl Variability, Australian Antarctic Science Project 4425 (joint NSF-AASP project, co-CI V. Petrenko).
Chief Investigator, Greenhouse Gases in the Southern Atmosphere, Australian Antarctic Science Projects 4167 and 4612..
Investigator, CSIRO AIM Future Science Platform, Detection, location, characterisation and quantification of diffused emissions.
