Biography

Dr Aysha Fleming is an environmental social scientist (sociologist) based in Hobart, Tasmania. Dr Fleming brings an academic background in adult education, social research in agriculture, communication of climate change and rural sociology. She is particularly interested in language and engaging rural communities with learning and change and in social transformations for sustainability. Her particular expertise is in discourse analysis (language analysis), understanding values and cross sectoral analysis (agriculture, fisheries, forestry). She is currently working on projects to do with digital agriculture (Digiscape social dimensions), including social indicators in sustainability for fisheries (Healthcheck 2), and how we can increase the numbers of trees on farms for multiple benefits (Trees on Farms) and will shortly start looking at livelihoods in Indonesia (Peatland). She has previously worked on climate change in the wine industry and in marine supply chains, perceptions of the sustainable development goals and digital technology and ageing.

Other Interests

Dr Aysha Fleming is also interested in social license, food security, climate change and social dimensions of agriculture and agricultural supply chains.
