Biography

I am an economist with work experience in Chile, the United States, New Zealand and Australia. I apply different economic and statistical methods to respond to complex research questions and to support multidisciplinary team projects. I aim to develop robust and transparent research approaches that could be replicated and adapted to different contexts.

Most of my work has been published in different economics and multidisciplinary journals. I am currently the co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal Resources Policy, the most important international journal of minerals policy and economics. Over the years, I have accumulated a diverse pool of research on different discipline areas and topics. Some of these include:

Resource Economics
- Economic impacts of unconventional natural gas extraction (AJARE paper)
- Understanding the "Resource Curse" at subnational levels. Why some regions lag behind? (another paper in AJARE)
- How much an extra hour of sunlight means for a property value? (paper in Regional Science and Urban Economics)

Regional Economics
- Regional vulnerability and economic resilience to decarbonisatsion processes (best 2020 paper published in AJARE)
- Estimation of local job multipliers (paper in Resources Policy)
- Measuring income inequality (published (with code) in the Australian Geographer)
- Regional economic implications of climate change mitigation (work in progress)
- Slippage effect of land conservation programs (published in Papers in Regional Science)

Agricultural Economics
- Farm productivity and international trade (published in Food Policy)
- Agricultural export risks and projections (Report delivered to the Victoria State Government)
- Agricultural workforce challenges and opportunities in the future (report produced for ABARES)

Development and Behavioral Economics
- Impact of agricultural trade on rural poverty (paper in Agricultural Economics)
- Drivers of household indebtedness in rural areas (forthcoming)
- Behavioural impacts of natural disasters on social capital (in the Journal of Development Studies)

Global Analysis
- Shale gas reservoirs and its threat to urban areas (published in Nature)
- Impact of fossil fuel extraction on welfare (e.g., this paper in Global Environmental Change)

To better reflect my background, I now sign my publications as D. Fleming-Muñoz – I am originally from Chile (ergo, Spanish is my first language). When not researching, I enjoy spending time with the family (wife and three kids) and trying to workout!
