Dr Jill Freyne is CSIRO's Deputy Chief Scientist. In conjunction with the Chief Scientist, Jill leads CSIRO in prioritising science to deliver the greatest impact.

This includes initiatives that
- build CSIRO’s reputation and trust both nationally and internationally
- ensure the delivery of real world science impact with the best research partners
- support strategic capability and capacity building
- support best practice in research design and conduct
- address the gaps in the translation/commercialisation of research and technology

Jill was previously the Deputy Research Director of the Australian eHealth Research Center (AEHRC) at CSIRO. The AEHRC is the leading national research facility applying information and communication technology to improve health services and clinical treatment for Australians. Jill is passionate about the transformation of healthcare systems through digital enhancements, in particular virtual care. Jill received her PhD in Computer Science from University College Dublin, Ireland, and has held positions at University College Dublin, and IBM Research, USA prior to joining CSIRO in 2009.

Jill has significant research experience in the development and validation of digital health services, lifestyle interventions, and recommender systems. Jill has worked with Australian and International industry partners to devise engaging and sustainable health technology solutions, aimed specifically at supporting the digital transformation of healthcare. Through clinical trials the technologies have been evaluated to understand and quantify their impact on individuals, care teams and carers, thus contributing to the body of evidence required to see large scale adoption and innovation in digital health service delivery.
