Dr Ignacio Gonzalez-Alvarez

Principal Geochemist

Contact details:

Ignacio completed his BSc and MSc at the University of Oviedo, Spain, on Geology, specializing in stratigraphy and basin analysis, and completed his Ph.D. at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, focussing on Geochemistry.

Ignacio then worked in industry in Europe and Australia, and in academia as an Associate Professor at the University of Western Australia. He is currently Principal Geochemist at CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) in Perth, Australia. He has conducted research and mineral exploration projects on five continents, including countries such as Canada, USA, Papua New Guinea, Australia, China, India, Spain, Norway, South Africa, Congo, and Brazil.

Ignacio’s work at CSIRO involves the coordination of a diverse portfolio of multi-disciplinary and data integration projects in different regions within Australia. At present, his leading research is focussed on various aspects of landscape evolution, weathering processes, trace element mobility in the continental crust, and mineral exploration. He is a panel member of several diverse non-profit organizations that promote Earth Sciences, an adjunct Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia, and an Associate Editor of International Journals, such as Ore Geology Reviews, Frontiers for Earth Sciences and Minerals.
