Katie is a marine biologist by trade, interested in the application of total systems biology-based approaches to ecologically relevant questions (environmental 'omics). Specifically, the development and use of these sensitive tools for assessing complex changes (natural and man-made) in aquatic ecosystems, and ultimately to enhancing system management, function and resilience.

Her work to date has focussed on coral reef systems, coral symbiosis function and dysfunction during coral bleaching, reef fishes and the role of metabolism (metabolomics).

During her fellowship, she alongside collaborators in O&A and L&W, will be developing a range of 'omics-based techniques, to monitor function in aquatic systems exposed to multiple environmental stressors.
