Biography
Dr Jason Kirby is a Principal Research Scientist in CSIRO with 15 year’s experience in environmental chemistry and ecotoxicology. He leads research projects in the Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology team in the Environmental Contaminant Mitigation & Biotechnology Program (Land and Water BU); he was the research coordinator for CSIRO’s Nanosafety Research Program (Manufacturing BU) and currently coordinates CSIRO’s research in sustainable mining through improved environmental performance (Minesite Environmental Management Group, Mineral Resources BU). His research integrates diverse aspects of environment chemistry and ecotoxicology to determine the fate and assess environmental risk posed by pollutants, especially emerging contaminants such as manufactured nanomaterials and microplastics in aquatic and terrestrial environments. His research has impact through government agencies, industry, and community; for example through embodiment of his science in regulation, through industries social license to operate, freedom of industry to develop innovative and emerging technologies, and companies to manufacture and import/export safe products and goods.
