Biography
Ilias (Louis) is a Senior Principal Research Consultant and the current team leader of the interfacial chemistry team in Metal Industries in the Manufacturing BU. He is recognised internationally as an expert in nanofibres, materials science, personal protection equipment (PPE) and electronic textiles. His recent industrial projects have been funded by Australian and UK government Defence and Security Science Agencies. Last year he was the key person who assembled the Mask testing group (comprising a multidisciplinary team with resources from Manufacturing, Services, and Engineering), Australia’s first and only NATA accredited laboratory in surgical mask testing extending Australia’s sovereign capability. He also works closely with agencies such as TGA and NMI. In the last 5 years he has secured over $24M in funding. He has supervised post-doctoral fellows and postgraduate students with RMIT and Monash Universities. Finalist of the Eureka Prize 2019 for Contributions to Defence Science. Co-founder of the International Electrospinning Conference.
He has authored or co-authored approximately 71 publications (including invited reviews), 5 patents, 12 conference presentations (4 invited talks over the past 5 years) and numerous client reports. He has an h-index of 30 attracting over 2500 citations.
