Dr. Ho-Pun Lam (Brian) is currently Senior Research Scientist in Data61, CSIRO since its merger with NICTA in late 2015. His primary research interest includes non-classical logics, non-monotonic reasoning, formal models of normative reasoning, especially on devising algorithms to improve the computational complexity of defeasible reasoning (under different variants) and their applications in different domains, such as Legal Informatics, Business Process Compliance, UAV navigation, etc. In recent years, his research interest has been extended to the use of Natural Language Processing to normative mining.

Dr. Lam received his PhD degree from the University of Queensland in 2012, and obtained his MSc in Computer Science and BEng in Computer Engineering from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2001 and 1998, respectively. Besides, he also received his teacher training at the Hong Kong Baptist University and a Master Degree in Educational Administration from the University of New England. He is the co-recipient of the best paper award at the 10th International Web Rule Symposium (RuleML 2016).
