Biography
Dr Caroline Lee leads the CSIRO Animal Behaviour and Welfare Team. The team works to develop objective measures of welfare and to improve husbandry practices and livestock systems. Dr Lee is working to provide improvements in animal welfare for the benefit of both the livestock industries and to meet the expectations of the general public.
Dr Lee's research is developing new methods to assess animal welfare. Her main interests include developing novel, practical methods of assessing emotional states in animals. She also works on developing virtual fencing systems for cattle and sheep and has a growing interest in linking animal welfare with broader sustainability goals.
Her research topics include:
* benchmarking and animal welfare assurance
* assessment of affective states in livestock
* development of virtual fencing for cattle and sheep
* welfare assessment of new technologies in livestock
* assessing welfare of free range laying hens
