Biography
Vincent Lemiale is a Group Leader for the Analytics and Decision Sciences (A&DS) Program within CSIRO Data61. The Natural Systems Modelling Group's specialization is in computational simulation and data analytics. Our aim is to build highly differentiated decision support systems, based on understanding and modelling the natural phenomena and system interactions that are central to: (i) natural hazards and their interaction with cities, the landscape and infrastructure; and (ii) human activity, medicine and health.
Vincent's research interests include the application of computational modelling to natural hazards and complex systems, and he has extensive experience in computational modelling methods including finite element schemes, particle-based techniques and agent-based models. He currently leads two main research initiatives at CSIRO:
Evacuation modelling. Vincent leads a team of scientists and engineers focused on building evacuation modelling platforms with application to bushfires and other hazards. This work is a collaborative initiative with a number of emergency services including Emergency Management Victoria, DEECA, QFES, DFES and has received support from state and federal agencies.
Vincent is the lead scientist of the PiXIE software, a multi-purpose agent-based modelling library with applications to crowd dynamics, evacuation, disease spread and more.
