Biography
Alejandro Metke leads the Health Data Interoperability Team at the Australian e-Health Research Centre (AEHRC) in Brisbane. The team's main focus is on health data standards, such as the Fast Health Interoperability Resources (FHIR) and clinical terminologies, such as SNOMED CT. Alejandro has been heavily involved in the implementation of Ontoserver, a terminology server that has been licensed to the Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) as the main component of the National Clinical Terminology Service.
Alejandro joined the AEHRC in 2012 as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow working on clinical ontologies. His research interests also include description logics, natural language processing, artificial intelligence and information retrieval.
Alejandro received a bachelor's degree in Systems and Computing Engineering from Los Andes University in Colombia in 2003. He then received a master's degree in Information Technology from the University of Queensland in 2005. After returning to Colombia and working in industry for a couple of years he then came back to Australia to study a PhD at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) thanks to a scholarship from the Smart Services CRC.
