Biography
Born in London, Dr Manners completed a PhD in a joint industry (ICI) and university-sponsored project on fungal phytopathogen biochemistry and the mode of action of fungicides in 1979. His main research interests have since been on new agricultural and plant technologies.
He worked briefly with the agrochemical industry in the United Kingdom before coming to Australia to take up an academic research post in Brisbane.
He joined CSIRO in 1985 and has led research in biotechnology and plant improvement for northern Australian agriculture.
Dr Manners moved to Canberra in 2013 and has held positions of Chief of CSIRO Plant Industry and Director of CSIRO Agriculture an Food. He is now an Honorary Fellow operating out of the QBP in Brisbane.
Dr Manners has a strong commitment to Agricultural innovation that will make Australia a major contributor of technology that addresses global food production and consumption.
Dr Manners has published more than 200 refereed research journal articles and is co-inventor on several patent applications.
