Biography
Dr. Divina Navarro is a Research Scientist at CSIRO Environment and an Affiliate at the University of Adelaide’s School of Agriculture, Food & Wine. She has over 12 years of experience as an environmental analytical chemist with research interests on the fundamental and applied aspects of environmental contaminants. Her work aims to advance the understanding of contaminant fate and behaviour as well as develop practical solutions for the management and remediation of contaminated environments.
At CSIRO, she collaborates with a multidisciplinary team comprising soil scientists, chemists, ecotoxicologists and engineers, to deliver projects of significant importance to the Australian government and industry. She has led several projects that have helped advance the regulatory management of chemicals in Australia – developing the national guidance for assessing the environmental risk of nanomaterials in agriculture and veterinary medicine and select reports used in the revision of Australia's PFAS contamination management guidance (PFAS NEMP 3.0).
Currently, her research is focussed on investigating PFAS fate in the vadose zone and exploring treatment methods using sorbents and floating wetlands. She is also contributing to projects characterising chemicals of concern in current and emerging wastes.
Other Interests
Apart from research, I am passionate about student mentoring and engaging with the local community. I supervise/co-supervise postgraduate students and host work experience HS students. I also volunteer in local events such as Science Alive and STEM Professionals in Schools.
