Biography

Karen is the Director of Data61’s National Digital Mission which brings together research, industry and government collaborators to develop and deploy data and digital technology platforms for large scale and lasting benefit for Australia. The Mission Program is one of the key initiatives for Data61 in driving national scale outcomes from our research. It is a potentially transformative new model for the Australian industrial research sector.

Prior to this, Karen had a long-standing career with Defence Science and Technology, most recently playing an integral role in the delivery of the $730M Next Generation Technologies Fund. As a molecular biologist and epidemiologist, Karen has wide-ranging research experience addressing autoimmune diseases, HIV, handheld diagnostics and traumatic brain injury.
