Biography

Peter is a research scientist, specialising in ocean data assimilation, ocean forecasting, ocean observing, and ocean dynamics. Peter leads the Australian Argo Program, tasked with monitoring the broad scale ocean properties around Australia and in the Southern Hemisphere. Peter is Australia's representative on the International Argo Steering Team. Peter leads the Bluelink project (Meteorological Service Agreement), responsible for establishing and maintaining ocean forecasting capabilities for Australia, in partnership with the Bureau of Meteorology and Department of Defence. Peter developed the data assimilation methodology that underpins Australia's operational ocean forecast system (OceanMAPS: Ocean Modelling Analysis and Prediction System) and ocean reanalysis system (BRAN: Bluelink ReANalysis). Peter is a member of the GODAE OceanView (GOV) Science Team (since 2007) and was the founding Co-Chair of the GOV Observing System Evaluation Task Team (2007 and 2017).
