Biography

Professor Anthony J. Richardson (UQ/CSIRO) is recognised internationally for significant contributions in the fields of climate change ecology, plankton dynamics and ocean observation. Anthony has published 165 refereed publications, including articles in Nature, Science and TREE.

Education
Anthony completed a Degree in Zoology and Mathematics from the University of Queensland (UQ) in 1991. He then completed an Honours Degree in Ecological Modelling in 1992 (UQ). Next was a PhD at the University of Cape Town on Plankton Dynamics and Fisheries in 1998. In 2002, Anthony then moved to the Sir Alister Hardy Foundation of Ocean Science in Plymouth (UK) where he developed an interest in how climate change impacts marine systems. Since 2005, Anthony has held a joint appointment in CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere and in Mathematics at the University of Queensland.

Opportunities for Students
Particular areas of research include the impacts of climate variability and change on marine biological systems, and modelling impacts of climate change on marine biodiversity and implications for conservation. Having a position at UQ, I can supervise students by myself but commonly jointly supervise students with other CSIRO collaborators.

Other Interests

Long-distance cycling (Audax)
Gardening
Camping
