Biography
Chris Stokes is a senior research scientist with CSIRO at the Australian Tropical Science & Innovation Precinct, Townsville, Australia. He works on the sustainable development and use of renewable natural resources, particularly on balancing economic, social and environmental values and risks in intensifying agricultural production in northern Australia. Dr Stokes has worked in the rangelands of Africa, North America and Australia where he has looked at how these socio-ecological systems are impacted by disturbances such as grazing, land fragmentation and climate. He joined CSIRO in 2000 to work in the tropical rangelands of northern Australia, and has since expanded into other aspects of developing tropical Australia.
