Biography

Dr Parveen Sangwan is a senior research scientist at CSIRO Manufacturing, Clayton (VIC). After completing a PhD in Microbiology from Melbourne University, she joined CSIRO as a post-doc fellow (2006 - 2009). During this term, Parveen conceived and developed research program to understand interactions between materials and biological agents under natural environments, contributed to development of biopolymers, and set up Australia's first NATA accredited laboratory for polymer testing to Australian standard AS4736. Parveen acts as a trusted advisor to government and industry in this field.
Since 2014, Parveen's research focus has been on process development and upscale production of biologics such as recombinant proteins, enzymes, antifungals, lipids and other biomolecules for applications in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and food industries. Parveen has led several projects for SMEs and multinationals over the years and delivered high value impacts for clients. She has won various awards for her outstanding academic and professional achievements over the years.
Parveen is currently leading Biologics Production Team, which is highly skilled and experienced in upscale production of biologics (proteins, mAbs, viruses, VLPs, and fusion-proteins etc) in range of mammalian and insect cell lines, mainly used for drugs and vaccine development, small molecule drug discovery, biosensors and biomedical devices.

Other Interests

Parveen's main research interests include discovery of novel microorganisms, enzymes, natural antimicrobial/antibiotics, biomimicry and development of novel fermentation processes using waste/under-utilised resource (circular-economy)
