Biography

Andrew Terhorst began his career as a marine geologist specialising in offshore diamond exploration. He founded a geospatial technologies business that served diverse sectors, including mineral exploration, natural resource management, nuclear energy, and urban planning. Driven by a passion for research, Andrew joined the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), where he established the ICT4EO research group, contributing to the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) initiative.

During his tenure at CSIRO, Andrew played a leading role in establishing a world-class sensor informatics capability in Hobart. He managed the award-winning South Esk Hydrological Sensor Web project and instigated research and development of a Sensor Cloud Platform. This work laid the groundwork for the recently commercialised Senaps platform.

His interdisciplinary approach has driven projects across various sectors, including sustainable business model innovation, AI applications in climate disclosure, and circular economy strategies.

Andrew's expertise in social network analysis has been instrumental in various initiatives, such as the ARC Pathways to Market Industrial Transformation Research Hub and AI for Missions.

His extensive publication record, mentorship roles, and contributions to CSIRO's strategic initiatives reflect his leadership and problem-solving skills. Andrew continues to leverage advanced analytical techniques to assess and enhance innovation performance, fostering collaboration and driving positive organisational change.
