Biography
Dr Chen Wang received his B.S., M.Eng. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Nanjing University, China. He is currently a Research Scientist in the Software and Computational Systems Program (SCS), Data61 at CSIRO, which he joined in 2008. Prior to that, he was a research fellow with the Centre for Distributed and High Performance Computing / School of Information Technology at The University of Sydney, a software engineer with Amicas Inc. in the US and a Postdoc with National University of Singapore.
His current research interests are on AI for science, interpretability, robustness and scalability of data analytics systems. He leads and develops technologies for large scale data analytics systems for various domains, such as radio astronomy, health and agriculture. His research in these areas have produced new algorithms released in large open-source software and led to new scientific discoveries.
Dr Wang published more than 90 papers, many of them on top journals and conferences, such as IEEE Transactions on Computer, IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, VLDB Journal, ACM Computing Surveys, WWW, IJCAI, SIGMOD, EDBT, HPDC and IPDPS. He won a best paper award in CCGrid 2010 and an IEEE Service Cup 2010 second prize. The high-throughput event system and a medical image archive system he developed while working in industry have been used by many hospitals and medical centres in the US.
