Biography

Dr Wade researches the interplay between animal physiology and molecular biology, with a particular focus on the functional molecular responses that underlie nutrition and feeding, known as nutrigenomics.
In his aquaculture research he works with national and international feed companies, as well as local farm producers, in order to optimise nutrient utilisation and animal performance in aquaculture.
Within his field, Dr Wade leads multiple industry-funded projects, including:
1) metabolic responses to feeding and dietary nutrient manipulation in fish; studying the genetic regulators of key metabolic pathways in fish, and how they are modified in response to changes to dietary nutrient sources
2) optimisation of prawn pigmentation through mechanisms that regulate pigment deposition, including the effects of varying the pigment in feeds, exposure to black or white substrates and deposition of the pigment protein.

Other Interests

Dr Wade’s other research interests involve:
molecular mechanisms of growth in prawns and fish
genetic mechanisms that control gender and fertility in crustaceans
evolution of pigmentation in marine crustaceans.
