Biography
Vahid is a Research Scientist at CSIRO. His research interests are in modelling energy systems and developing innovative solutions to enhance the grid's reliability and resilience. Part of his work involves developing data-driven frameworks for building simulations, which enable the use of advanced controls such as reinforcement learning and model predictive control to optimise energy efficiency and operational flexibility while maintaining indoor comfort. He also works on quantifying the flexibility potential of buildings to dynamically manage demand and on-site generation in response to local climate conditions, occupant needs, and network constraints. In addition, he develops models to estimate and forecast the emissions intensity of the electricity grid.
Vahid also contributes to CSIRO's FlexCost project, which is developing an evidence-based framework for estimating the costs of demand-side energy resources. FlexCost helps governments, industry and consumers better understand the value of energy flexibility options and identify opportunities to reduce electricity system costs while supporting Australia's energy transition.
Before joining CSIRO, Vahid spent nearly two years at the Australian Maritime College, University of Tasmania, and the School of Engineering, Macquarie University, where he conducted several research projects related to offshore renewables. He studied Physics at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in Iran and Civil Engineering at RMIT University.
