Biography
Dr Jess Bugeja is a CERC postdoctoral fellow in the CSIRO’s Australian eHealth Research Centre, Neurodevelopment and Plasticity team. Her field of research is at the intersection of neuroscience and neuroimaging. In this work she aims to investigate preterm neonates brain macro and microstructure using magnetic resonance (MR) imaging to identify associations with later cognitive, language, memory and behavioural outcomes. During her PhD, she developed automated medical image analysis tools to improve the assessment of cartilage composition and cam morphology using MR images of the hip joint. To date she has collaborated on several projects including, the investigation of age-related differences in muscle volume/ intramuscular fat in the triceps surae and, the integration of fused images to improve tumour visualisation in the prostate. She was awarded a fellowship at CSIRO within the Impossible Without You team in 2022 and was a 2019 Global Change Scholar at the University of Queensland.
