Biography

Nicholas Bourne is an accomplished Analytical Chemist with over a decade of experience working in research and various industries. Currently, he serves as the chemist at CSIRO’s Integrated Sustainable Aquaculture Production group, where he has been instrumental in expanding the group's Near Infra-red Spectroscopy (NIRS) capabilities and leading the development of innovative analytical techniques. Nicholas holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemistry from Queensland University of Technology and has a strong background in both instrumental and classical chemistry, with expertise in laboratory management and quality control.

Throughout his career, Nicholas has demonstrated a strong commitment to scientific excellence and leadership. He was part of the award-winning team that received the CSIRO Medal for Science Impact in 2014 for the development of Novacq™, a groundbreaking natural feed ingredient for prawns. His ability to manage complex projects, mentor junior staff, and optimise laboratory operations has significantly increased the efficiency and capabilities of the labs he has worked in.

Nicholas is also a skilled collaborator, having engaged with both internal and external stakeholders to deliver impactful scientific solutions. His expertise spans a wide range of analytical techniques, from elemental analysis to chromatographic methods, and he continues to contribute to the advancement of science through his ongoing research, publications, and presentations at conferences.
