Biography

Dr Haohui "Caron" Chen is a computational social scientist in CSIRO’s Data61 with expertise in applied statistics, machine learning, geographical information sciences and social science. Caron has an in-depth understanding of structured and unstructured datasets and the knowledge he has accumulated from numerous research and industrial projects allows him to evaluate potential datasets and contribute socio-economic modelling to address specific research and industrial problems. Working with world-class research organizations such as MIT Media Lab, he tries to understand the societal impacts of automation technologies and the changes in employment structure, work skills and labour force participation. Over the course of his research career, Caron has published influential peer-reviewed journal papers, one of which is published in Science Advances and featured in the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post. He also participated in the Shanghai Open Data App Challenge (SODA) in 2015 and won the Excellence Award.
