Biography

Dr Rebecca Doble is a Senior Research Scientist and has been working at CSIRO since 2004. She is a hydrologist and environmental engineer, with experience in water security, groundwater hydrology including flood recharge and groundwater dependent ecosystems.

Her research interests are in integrated regional water management, including hydrology, integrating hydrological models with remote sensing and geophysics data, interactions between rivers and groundwater including flood recharge, hydrogeological impacts of water use and landscape management, and groundwater dependent ecosystems (GDEs). Her research includes estimating groundwater recharge and infiltration from floods in the Murray-Darling Basin and Northern Australia, and characterising groundwater systems using numerical and analytical models for water assessments in Northern Australia.

Previous projects include working with stakeholders in the Limestone Coast of South Australia to understand the potential future impacts of climate change on groundwater levels, developing the flood inundation component of the Australian Water Resources Assessment (AWRA) system for the Bureau of Meteorology and integrating hydrological models, ecological and socioeconomic research to understand future landscape processes in the Lower River Murray Region. She has let research into suitable and emerging technology for remote community (mostly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) water supply, including a framework for technology appropriateness based on community engagement.

She is currently co-leading the Ramsar Wetland Climate Change Vulnerability and Adaptation Pathways project for three Ramsar listed wetlands in the Murray-Darling Basin (https://www.csiro.au/en/research/natural-environment/water/murray-darling-basin/ramsar), leading the Water work package for Ag2050 (https://www.csiro.au/en/work-with-us/industries/agriculture/ag2050) and developing flood recharge estimates for the Murray-Darling Basin Sustainable Yields 2 project.
