Dr Annie Foppert

My research primarily focuses on the dynamics of large-scale ocean currents, with the main focus on the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) of the Southern Ocean. I seek to understand how heat moves poleward across the Southern Ocean and towards Antarctica, what the mechanisms for that heat transport are, and how those governing processes may change in the future. I address these question by analysing observational data in combination with output from numerical model simulations.
