Biography
Nick Farmer is a geologist and Research Scientist in the Microanalytical Geoscience team. Nick is a geologist by training, and combines this Geoscience domain knowledge with a lifelong interest in technology and innovation, a rapidly growing skillset in data science and machine learning tools, a strong background in lab- and Synchrotron-based techniques for analyzing geological materials, and a willingness to ask questions about physics to lead the development of the next generation of CSIRO's world-leading tools for microanalysis.
Nick's work, in collaboration with other members of the Microanalytical Geoscience team, includes implementing new modes of analysis for the CSIRO Maia Mapper and developing new LIBS technology.
Nick has helped industry and government extract new insights from sulfide ore deposits and gold systems using the CSIRO Maia Mapper, and is guiding the development of new tools to target critical mineral systems (especially Li) alongside traditional base and precious metal commodities.
