Ms Bec Gorton

Bec Gorton is a Senior Research Engineer in the Sustainable Marine Futures (SMF) Program, within the Environment Business Unit and sits in the Biodiversity, Imagery, Annotation, and Automation (BIAA) team based in Hobart, Australia.

She is passionate about increasing awareness of how appropriate use of technologies such as high performance computing, machine learning and big data analysis and management can results in regime shifts in the scope of possible science.

Since joining CSIRO in 2007 she has held a number of roles including Senior Software Engineer, Team Leader and Research Group Leader. She has now shifted her focus to strategic initiatives such as how we can better co-ordinate our use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and create stronger linkages across CSIRO in this area.
