Biography
Radio astronomer who has primarily made use of single-dish radio telescopes such as Murriyang, our Parkes radio telescope, Jodrell Bank and FAST. I am particularly interested in pulsar astronomy and have led searches for new pulsars, monitoring known pulsars and using pulsars as tools to search for gravitational waves and to develop pulsar-based time standards. I have developed multiple software packages for radio astronomy, including the tempo2 pulsar timing software package, the PSRCAT pulsar catalogue and various pipelines for processing radio astronomy data sets.
I am currently the ATNF Head of Science and based in Sydney, Australia. I have supervised (or co-supervised) numerous students with my collaborators primarily across Australia, China, Japan, India and the US. I have led the Parkes Pulsar Timing Array project as well as the International Pulsar Timing Array project. In my current role as ATNF Head of Science, I am the group leader of ~100 staff and affiliates.
