Biography

Dr Jason Kirby is a Senior Principal Research Scientist in CSIRO’s Environment Business Unit with ~20 years’ experience in environmental monitoring, assessment, and management of contaminants of concern (for example, PFAS, microplastics, nanomaterials, & toxic metals/metalloids). He is a trusted national expert in responsible mining for environmental sustainability & reduced mining legacies & detection, assessment, & management of contaminants of concern for the protection of human and ecosystem health. Dr Kirby is the leader of CSIRO Environmental Assessment & Technologies Group & Program Leader for Data Integration, Forecasting & Scale in CRC TiME. Dr Kirby has an extensive scientific publication record with a web-of-science h-index 40 & google scholar h-index 46). He has ~100 refereed scientific publications, >30 reports for industry, government agencies and community. His research has impact through government agencies, industry, and community; for example, through embodiment of his science in regulation and management, through the mining, gas, chemical and manufacturing industries social license to operate and close, freedom of industry to develop innovative and emerging technologies, and companies to manufacture and import/export safe products and goods.
