Biography
Salman is a Senior Research Scientist at CSIRO Environment business unit's sea-level, waves and remote sensing team. His research uses remote sensing to create long-term records of ocean surface waves, winds, and related observations, which provide critical information for coastal hazards planning and are also in high demand from Australian offshore industries (oil & gas, marine renewable energy, fisheries etc.), and research communities to support research, development and planning of blue economy activities.
Salman is interested in bringing satellite ocean surface observations closer to the coast, improving global and regional models by using high quality observations, and using blended model-observation products to study mean sea-state climate, extreme events, and their impacts.
Salman’s previous research interests and experiences include working on a range of Earth Observation applications spanning satellite oceanography, remotely sensed archaeological survey of tropical rainforests, satellite derived land use and land cover mapping, and statistical modelling of microwave radar signals.
