Biography

Dan is a senior electrical engineer with a passion for entrepreneurship and renewable energy. He has 20 years of experience across a diverse range of technical projects, including renewable energy, power systems, automated control, data acquisition, building systems, and machine learning. Currently a member of the CSIRO Energy Systems team in Newcastle, Dan recently led the multimillion dollar upgrade of the Renewable Energy Integration Facility (REIF) which is CSIRO’s flagship renewable energy, microgrids and smart grid test and demonstration laboratory.

He possesses a strong domain knowledge of electrical engineering and renewable energy and a deep understanding of what it takes to effectively deliver technical projects. His recent work focuses on Australia’s transition to clean energy, including PV, batteries, microgrids, smart control, integration of renewables, and EVs. Dan is a recognised expert in Solar PV installations within the organisation, having led the installation of over 5MW of rooftop PV at 14 CSIRO sites.

Dan recently completed a Masters of Science in Renewable Energy. His dissertation focused on using machine learning to identify faults in solar PV systems. He is driven by a mission to use his knowledge and skills to help the world transition to cleaner energy sources.

Current Roles

  • Senior Engineer
    I am a member of the Energy Systems Team and am working on technologies that will assist Australia in its transition to zero emissions energy including Solar PV, batteries, electric vehicle charging + V2L, V2G, remote area power supplies and micro grids.
