Biography
Dr. Julien Lerat is a Senior Research Scientist at CSIRO Australia, where he develops modelling methods to improve the prediction of extreme hydro-climate events such as major floods and droughts. Before his position in CSIRO, Julien was a Research Scientist in the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.
With more than 20 years of experience, Julien has contributed to the advancement of modelling methods for water resources assessment, water forecasting, and uncertainty estimation. Julien developed a wide range of hydrological modelling systems in Australia and overseas, within both research and operational environments. Julien provided key contributions to the development of the AWRA-R river system model currently used by both CSIRO and Bureau of Meteorology to undertake water resources assessment. Julien also led the development of the forecasting component of the Australian Water Outlook. More recently, Julien led the characterisation of the 2022 flood in Northen NSW.
