Biography
Brett graduated from University of Tasmania in 1999, having studied Electronics, Computer Science and Maths in a combined Science/Engineering honours degree. He worked for 12 years in a variety of engineering roles including electronics design, embedded systems programming, and scientific software engineering, mostly for startups and small-medium enterprises.
Brett commenced with CSIRO in 2011, joining a team providing technical, scientific and operational support on research voyages on RV Southern Surveyor. With the imminent delivery of the RV Investigator a few years later, Brett took over planning and oversight of the scientific instrumentation suite installation onto the new vessel. Brett participated in numerous RV Investigator voyages, initially for vessel commissioning and subsequently providing technical support at sea for research voyages, before becoming leader of the seagoing support team in 2017.
In 2020, Brett has moved into the role of Research Group Leader of the Instrumentation and Electronics Group within the Engineering and Technology Program. He has a keen interest in development of reliable and versatile electronic systems, and integration of commercial scientific instruments with consumer electronics and in-house engineering to form novel scientific research systems.
